Pop Duo Daryl Hall & John Oates Get Their Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
In the ‘80s, there was no bigger duo than Daryl Hall and John Oates. There videos were in heavy rotation on MTV and there music could be heard on every home hifi and car stereo in the country. By the time they kicked off the ‘80s with the #1 hit “Kiss on My List,” Hall and Oates had already been focused on a music career together for 10 years after meeting in an elevator at the Adelphi Ballroom in Philadelphia. Now almost 50 years later, one of the best selling pop duos of all time has received their Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
And the are totally deserving of the honor. The duo has sold roughly 40 million records worldwide. They’ve had six #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 — “Rich Girl”, “Kiss on My List”, “Private Eyes”, “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)”, “Maneater” and “Out of Touch.” But that’s just the icing on the cake when you consider that Hall & Oates have had 34 on the Billboard charts throughout the years. They also have achieved the almost unthinkable with seven platinum and six gold albums to their name.
Talented songwriters as well as performers, Daryl and John have been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now they add a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star to their arsenal of awards and honors.
At their recent ceremony, special guest speaker Dave Stewart said, “John and Daryl are so steeped in their own musical history and woven into the tapestry of American culture and music that whatever they do they sound like this unique duo that can never be replaced.”
